Could you write your memoir in 6 words?

Several years ago I picked up a little book published by Smith Magazine called, “Not Quite What I Was Planning”. In it people offer their life story in 6 words. My husband and I read it aloud, page by page. We went through a multitude of emotions, one minute we’d be howling with laughter, the next wiping tears from our eyes. The memoirs were open (Followed rules not dreams. Never again), inspired (afraid of everything did it anyway), wise (Outcast. Picked last. Surprised them all), funny (I was born. Some assembly required), thankful (many hands have kept me a float), optimistic (marked time till 55, reborn thereafter), disappointed (forty five never married oh poo), sad (still waiting for you to ask) and everything in between. Wisdom was everywhere and confirmed 6 word life stories could be just as poignant as longer versions.

That night we each wrote our own 6 word memoirs.

It was an amazing experience… we noticed our 6 word stories started out funny and went deeper the longer we stayed with it.

We are continually evolving so the memoir you write today will likely be revised next year, next month…..

Check out the 6 word memoirs

I told my friend Karen about the 6 word memoirs. On the spot, as we counted off 6, she came up with several of her own that were very funny! Later that night I got a text, she had another, this one touched her very core.

Using only 6 words we are able to simplify and articulate the very essence of ourselves.

Write your 6 word memoir.

You can’t help but be impacted.

Could you write your memoir in 6 words?
