YUMMY AGING<\/a> Is all about living our best life with passion and purpose. That means staying fit and healthy. \u00a0We\u2019re all on the hunt for healthier ways to eat. It seems every conversation these days veers into the food and healthy eating area. Someone is always trying \u2018something\u2019 new.<\/p>\n

Have you tried kefir? A friend \u00a0‘grows’ her own kefir culture and swears by the benefits to the digestive system. Right now she\u2019s holidaying and has 2 dedicated \u2018kefir-keepers\u2019 who have committed to keeping this culture fed and bubbling in the dark, cool recesses of their pantries. This is big stuff akin to taking care of a member of the family.<\/p>\n

Have you tried substituting fresh, raw zucchini noodles for traditional wheat? See above. They are surprisingly YUMMY. I make mine with a spiralizer. A potato peeler to make fettuccini or a julienne peeler for spaghetti works just as well.<\/p>\n

Have your read *The China Study? First published in 2006 it\u2019s still looked upon as the most comprehensive nutrition study even conducted. The author Dr. T. Colin Campbell is solid proponent of plant based eating. Another friend, a dedicated carnivore, \u00a0went completely vegan a year ago after reading this ground breaker. \u00a0The debilitating allergies that she\u2019d struggled with for years—vanished.<\/p>\n

Have you removed any of the following from your diet – wheat, sugar, dairy, carbs? Have you added fiber, vegetables, greens powder or juices? How do you feel? \u00a0Friends who\u2019ve experimented with these changes always enthusiastically say they feel \u2018better\u2019, less bloated, more energetic, clearer headed etc\u2026<\/p>\n

Not ready to make a big change? Below are a few healthy ingredient swaps that are quick and easy and bump up the nutritional value of your food. Some you probably already know about. Others might be new.<\/p>\n

HEALTHY INGREDIENT SWAPS<\/strong><\/p>\n

SWAP<\/strong> (soaked) dates for sugar<\/p>\n

Yummy bread made with nut and rice flours<\/p><\/div>\n

SWAP<\/strong> nut flour (hazelnut meal, almond meal, coconut) for \u00bd of the all purpose flour called for in a recipe<\/p>\n

SWAP<\/strong> flax meal for eggs (1\/3 cup flax seeds \u00a0and 1 cup water) blend flax seeds in food processor or blender until an even meal add water until milkshake consistency. Makes equivalent of 6 eggs. Store for 3-6 days in fridge<\/p>\n

SWAP zucchini noodles for pasta – this is one of my\u00a0favourite yummy recipes<\/a> . Noodles are easily made with a vegetable \u00a0or spiralizer. Here’s a couple more Yummy Aging recipes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

SWAP<\/strong> non fat greek yogurt for sour cream<\/p>\n

SWAP<\/strong> coconut oil for milk<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve tried most of these. The result? \u00a0Way healthier meals and baked goods that don\u2019t compromise flavor or texture. To find exact rations and measurements for the swaps do a quick google search to find instructions.<\/p>\n

HOLD THE PRESSES!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yummy (plant-based) Eats high in protein –\u00a0<\/strong>Just as I was about to press Publish this popped up. While it’s not a healthy substitution it does fall into the Yummy Eats category. As many people integrate more plant based foods into their diets they worry about getting enough protein. Here is a great list of 37 protein rich foods including grams<\/a><\/p>\n
