They pull us in\u2026make silent promises\u2026lead us on.\u00a0 We weaken, succumb and buy harboring high hopes for these artful, colourful, shiny, textured treasures. \u00a0Maybe they will spice up our style to the point of fabulousness or work as magical wardrobe extenders giving us more looks than days to wear. Shoes, bags, scarves, sunglasses, belts, pins, necklaces, chokers, pendants, bracelets, hats, sox, ropes, boots, stockings\u2026 the list is endless. \u00a0Personally I have only mastered the bracelet and sunglasses. As for the rest, it would seem I like to collect but don\u2019t wear.<\/p>\n<p>Last week Micolle and I were talking about how excited and inspired I was to (re) discover my <a href=\"https:\/\/ohmywordjournal.com\/redshoezone\/style-expert-micolle-takes-on-the-white-shirt\/\" target=\"_blank\">own white shirt<\/a> thanks to her. What are the leave alone&#8217;s?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Micolle: Accessories say so much and really are the final touch to every outfit\u2026I spend just as much time putting together accessories for an outfit as I do with the outfit itself.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Shoes, purses, scarves and jewellery are my general go to\u2019s when I think of quality accessories. And as I always say\u2026these items should be investment pieces that last you a long time. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Shoes are more a necessity than an accessory to me\u2026as they make or break an outfit. Flip it over, not to look at the price necessarily but to see if it has a leather sole. I\u2019m all about giving my shoes an extended shelf life and have all of them resoled once I work them in a bit. I admit though shoes have come a long way in terms of quality and comfort so I am learning not to fixate on the leather sole as much these days. As women, we are notorious for abusing our feet\u2026so choose shoes wisely\u2026if you can\u2019t walk in heels, save the embarrassment and pain\u2026don\u2019t buy them.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>A basic shoe collection should include\u2026flats, black heels, loafers, sandals and boots. While I agree that not all bags are created equal\u2026be on the look out for genuine leather, sturdy hardware, structure (it\u2019s in the details like\u2026pockets for lipstick, cell phone and keys). Colour wise I tend to stick with neutral shades but will have a bit more fun with bold colorful evening clutches. This season I\u2019m embracing more color and on the hunt for an ox blood cross over&#8230;you\u2019ll see a lot of this color come fall.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Because I tend to stick to what\u2019s practical these days, my go to bags are an everyday tote for work, evening clutch, the cross over, and a structured handbag\/satchel<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>THE BLING &#8211; I like clean lines in my house and feel much the same way when it comes to jewellery\u2026less is more. My rules are simple for not looking like a Christmas ornament\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>statement necklace \u2013 that\u2019s it. As for scarves\u2026cashmere please\u2026if it\u2019s that close to the face\u2026it has to feel good!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cheryl: <em>Whewwww<\/em>\u2026 instructions to minimize made me feel I can take on accessories! \u00a0I know you have pet peeves regarding accessories, what are they?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Micolle:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Yes! I call it the Christmas Tree effect\u2026it\u2019s when they&#8217;re piled on. It\u2019s accessory overload\u2026jewellery, sunglasses, scarves etc. I hate to admit this but I\u2019m a sucker for reality TV and to my husband&#8217;s dismay I indulge in watching The Real Housewives\u2026for the most part I love to see what they\u2019re wearing and then I cringe when they kill the outfit and overload on accessories. The worst for me is seeing matching jewelry\u2026earrings, bracelet and necklace\u2026too much.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Cheryl: I found a quote from Hollywood stylist Rachel Zoe \u2013 <em>\u201cStyle is a way to say who you are without having to speak.\u201d <\/em>I know you would agree. Most of all, accessories are personal.<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>They give insight into who we are.\u00a0 I have a love for all things art deco and a sophisticated dose of bohemian flare that you can always find in the jewellery I wear\u2026from hoops of all sizes to vintage necklace charms and rings.
