A sunny Sunday in mid July at one of my happy places &#8212; a Farmer&#8217;s Market! \u00a0We&#8217;d scoured the stalls, picked the yummiest stuff and were headed to the car. Mission accomplished.<\/p>\n<p><em>Whoa&#8230;..<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I catch something out of the corner of my eye.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABRUPT STOP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cWAIT!\u201d<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0 I call to my daughter and husband who were lugging multiple bags of produce.<\/p>\n<p>My &#8216;WOW&#8217; radar was firing on all cylinders. This was NOT the veggie, fruit, cheese, pies, preserves, flowers, eggs, and soap known as traditional Farmer\u2019s Market fare.\u00a0 These were beautifully designed, hand crafted coats.<\/p>\n<p>I made a beeline for the closest one.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cWould you like to try it on?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i>&#8216;It&#8217; was already in my eager hands.\u00a0<em>\u201cYES!\u201d<\/em>\u00a0I respond (mostly to myself). \u00a0It was on in a nanosecond.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;I LOVE IT!&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 I announce to the woman who\u00a0is chuckling \u00a0at the hurricane who swept her stall.\u00a0<i>\u00a0<\/i>\u201c<i>Do you\u00a0MAKE these????\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI do!\u201d<\/i>\u00a0she laughs. This is artist and designer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephanieblackford.com\/mystory\">Stephanie Blackford<\/a>. Originally from Ottawa, now based in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island she\u2019s been working her magic for 25 years. The work is extraordinary&#8230;..the most beautiful wearable art I&#8217;ve ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>I (no surprise) order a coat! Stephanie obligingly tracks down red fabric and makes it to order. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas and then finally\u2026.the day of delivery. WOW!<\/p>\n<p>It seems I\u2019m not the only one to give it a WOW. \u00a0Wherever I wear my coat it\u2019s a steady stream of \u201cWOW\u2019s\u201d followed by,\u00a0<i>\u201cLOVE your coat\u201d<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>\u201cWHERE did you get it?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>So here it is! \u00a0Luck was shining on me the day I stumbled on Stephanie and her designs at the Ladner Farmer\u2019s Market. But there&#8217;s a direct route&#8230;. her website \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephanieblackford.com\/\">Blackford Designs<\/a>. Enjoy the work of this gifted artist\/designer in the comfort of your own home (there&#8217;s lots to see) \u00a0or catch up with her at one of the design shows she\u2019ll be attending in BC and Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>PS &#8230; \u00a0what you can&#8217;t see in pic is that the coat laces up with back corset style&#8230;.totally feminine, totally beautiful!<\/p>\n<p>Big WOW!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perfection.
